The iPhone 15 Pro Max heating problem

Literally everyone on Twitter(are anyone calling this X?) and TikTok seem to be thinking that the iPhone 15 Pros are heating up and catching fire. OK, so I know it’s not “literally” everyone on these platforms, but that is what the algorithm on these media websites think I would love to see. So every time I go on this app it riles me up, because I have had the 15 Pro Max since day one and haven’t had any of the heating issues. This is not to say I have never had heating issues, the phone does heat up, but…

3 days with the iPhone 15 Pro Max

I wrote my initial impressions last Friday when I got the phone delivered. I have had a bit more time with the phone now have some more thoughts. 1. The Design Most of my feelings about using the phone for a couple of hours still stand true: the lighter weight, the titanium frame, the smaller size and bezels are really great. There is a lot of criticism that Apple is not innovating any more, and it is very true, at least in the iPhone space. Apple aren’t innovating, they are perfecting. The titanium edge of the phone meeting the back…

7 iPhone Camera Settings on iOS17 To Help Take Better Photos

This is a post that I did on my Instagram as I get a number of DMs from people asking how I took a certain photo with an iPhone. One person even accused me of taking photos from Google and passing it off as mine — I take this as a compliment. I am not claiming to be a great photographer (my imposter syndrome ensures that); what I am trying to tell you is that changing a few settings on your iPhone will give you more control over your camera and assist you in being a better photographer. A photo I took…

First Impressions of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

I got the 15 Pro Max delivered today and these are my first impressions. I haven’t played with the camera (this is the reason I upgrade yearly), but I will give it a whirl over the weekend! But for now, these are by initial impressions after using the phone for a couple of hours.  1.It’s so light! The 12, 13 and 14 Pro Max’s felt premium but were hefty. And after using those 3 models for the last 3 years the 15 feels light, very light. It is only 19 grams lighter than the 14 Pro Max but feels as…

Ejectify for Mac

There are apps that we use everyday and then there are apps that we use when we need them. My favourite apps are the the ones that I use everyday but it works so seamless that I don’t even notice it. I use my MacBook a lot and when I need an external monitor I use a LG 27” 4K monitor. The back of this monitor also has a dock built in, meaning I have my 2TB external SSD plugged in which has a lot of my files and also acts as my TimeMachine backup. I connect my MacBook to…

Apple Watch, Double Tap And The Future Of Gestures

One of the major selling points which Apple spent a lot of time on during the iPhone 15 keynote is the double pinch gesture that you can perform on the Series 9 Apple Watch. You can control the watch via gestures on the arm you wear the watch, and you don’t even need to touch the watch to use it, perfect for when your hands are occupied. Now, this might look new and unique to the Series 9 (and Ultra 2) but a similar feature was first introduced with watchOS 8 a couple of years ago. This was introduced as…

The Past and the Future, featuring an Intel Processor and Apple Silicon

I own the base 16” M1 MacBook Pro and I absolutely love it.  I have a day job as a programmer and I use a Dell laptop with an Intel processor, I know it has a reasonable SSD with 16gigs of ram. That’s all I know about it, I don’t know what processor it has. Oh! And I know it runs Windows 10. I use Visual Studio 2023 on it to get my job done and it gets my job done.  Use of my MacBook is limited to my personal projects, like working on this website and imthaz.com. I use…

Rest in Peace, The iPhone 13 Mini

A decade ago Android phones lead by Samsung were getting bigger and bigger and Apple was sticking to the 3.5” - 4” screen sizes. That all changed in 2014 when Apple introduced the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus jumping to screen sizes of 4.7” and 5.5 inches respectively. Sales soared through the roof and Apple made a lot of money on these phones even though “bendgate” was a thing.  In 2014 I brought the iPhone 6 “normal” 4.7-inches phone, not the bigger Plus variant. I was using an iPhone 4S before (I didn’t own a 5 or a 5S), and…

15 new features announced at the iPhone 15 Apple event

Apple just had it’s 2023 iPhone event, and there is a lot of chatter online about everything being familiar. I have seen a lot of tweets and comments along the lines of “wasn’t this announced before?” and “didn’t Apple already have this?”. While I do agree there was a bit of predictability and familiarity to today’s event, there were some new features that are coming to the products just introduced. Here are 15 of the new features that the new devices are getting:  The Apple Watches 1. New Apple Watch brightness levels The Series 9 Apple Watch can go up…

Twas the night before USB-C

Tomorrow, Apple is set to introduce its latest iPhones and all the rumours are pointing towards USB-C as replacement of the Lightning port.  The last time Apple switched the port from the 30-pin connector to the Lightning port was in 2012 with the iPhone 5; and a of people did not like the switch because 1. People don’t like change and 2. What was to happen to all the accessories that they brought prior to the change? they are not going to work with the new phone (unless they use an adapter). We are in a similar yet different situation…
