The Past and the Future, featuring an Intel Processor and Apple Silicon

I own the base 16” M1 MacBook Pro and I absolutely love it.

I have a day job as a programmer and I use a Dell laptop with an Intel processor, I know it has a reasonable SSD with 16gigs of ram. That’s all I know about it, I don’t know what processor it has. Oh! And I know it runs Windows 10. I use Visual Studio 2023 on it to get my job done and it gets my job done.

Use of my MacBook is limited to my personal projects, like working on this website and imthaz.com. I use Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom a lot, but I do all my photo editing on my 2018 iPad Pro or my iPhone.

When I working on my Dell laptop, if I take a break and I come back to my laptop and hit the spacebar, I will have to wait for what feels like eternity until the display lights up. When I am working on my M1 MacBook Pro this is as fast as it can get.

A very simple yet annoying thing I notice every time I am at my day job. Coming back to my M1 MacBook at the end of every work day feels like a step into the future… but it’s not, the future is here and it’s the new laptops with Apple Silicon. The others, are just stuck in the past…
