Apple delaying the personalised Siri “Apple Intelligence” feature.

Apple dropping bad news on a Friday on Daring Fireball

Not surprised at all, but the whole marketing point the iPhones 16 rode on was Apple intelligence and that series of iPhones 16 were the first phones “built for Apple Intelligence”. I never liked Apple marketing pushing Apple Intelligence when the phones did not launch with them and was promised that users will get the features during the year.

So far we have seen Siri get a new coat of paint and a few other features and the consensus is that it’s very underwhelming. I personally like the ability to summarise notifications and the clean up feature in the photos app. But, the big thing was that was to set Apple Intelligence a step above the rest was Siri with personal context.

Cut to the middle of the iPhone 16 cycle and it is disappointing that these features might even arrive after the next iPhone. If you purchased an iPhone with the promises of these new features let it be a reminder that you should not buy any device for a promise of what will come in the future.

Although Apple has been really good at not breaking promises in this sense, this can happen. A part of me is disappointed, but I am also glad that Apple is taking the time to make this right. If Apple launches something half baked and ruins the goodwill of Apple Intelligence and Siri (not that Siri has any reputable goodwill) it’s going to be hard to gain it all back.
