One of the annoyances I mentioned in my video before WWDC 25 was that I would have loved to see the iPad gain support for multiple user accounts. The iPad Pros are almost as expensive as a MacBook, and some configurations, especially with accessories, can push the price even higher than a MacBook.
tvOS, built on the foundations of iOS, already allows multiple user profiles. With tvOS 26, this has become even more prominent and much easier to use. When you turn the TV on, you now have the option to select a user profile — just like on a Mac. iPadOS is also based on iOS, so why is it so difficult for Apple to bring this feature to the iPad Pro, or iPads in general?
During the keynote, when they were demoing visionOS 26, they introduced a new feature that allows you to save your personal Vision Pro data — such as eye and hand tracking information — to your iPhone. This means you can quickly start using a shared Vision Pro. Apple now has a solution to enable a Vision Pro to be shared between users.
So why can’t iPadOS do the same? iPadOS 26 has been a major update in terms of multitasking, background tasks, and file management, but this is one area that remains unaddressed. I guess they had to leave something for a future update. I still have hope.
