Mark Gurman of Bloomberg is reporting what feels like the best Apple Vision Pro news in a while. I recently purchased the PSVR2 and am having great fun playing Gran Turismo 7. Sony has been accused of not giving the PSVR2 much love since its release, and Apple has been similarly criticised regarding the Apple Vision Pro.
For someone interested in both Apple and Sony (mostly PlayStation), this feels like two close friends deciding to get married. This partnership means most games developed for the PSVR2 can come to the Vision Pro, addressing the lack of third-party apps and games – a real concern. It also means PlayStation game developers now have an additional market for their games (though the limited number of Vision Pro users is another matter).
Even if you never intend to buy a Vision Pro but own a PSVR2, currently you cannot purchase individual PSVR2 controllers. If a controller breaks, you must buy an entire set of equipment, including the headset. The potential to purchase a controller from an Apple store would be welcome, and hopefully Sony will start selling PSVR2 controllers independently.
Beyond gaming, Gurman also believes Apple would want to use these controllers to navigate VisionOS. While the current gestures aren’t bad, providing users with more choices is always beneficial.
I hope this rumour proves true. It seems almost too good to be true, but this one appears to have some credibility. If it happens, Apple, Sony, and their customers all win—a truly win-win-win situation.
