Tim Hardwick, on MacRumors:
Dummy models shared by AppleTrack suggest that Apple has made some subtle adjustments to accommodate internal components in the tighter chassis. Most notably, the USB-C port on the bottom edge is no longer centered front-to-back. Instead, it appears shifted closer to the rear of the device, which is likely to accommodate display components within the enclosure.
I remember making fun of Samsung for something like this ages ago.
Making a slim phone has a lot of challenges, and the mockups we see of the “iPhone 17 Air” would not get this right. We will have to wait until September to know how this phone looks officially (unless someone leaves it in a bar overnight).
That said, whatever happened to Apple making a port-less iPhone? This could have been it. This is not a “pro” phone, so high-speed data transfer (or data transfer at all) is a non-issue, and MagSafe is more than capable of charging the device.
